A HANDSHAKE OR A WHATSAPP?

Category General

As a Buyer or a Seller, what do you prefer? In a world where we embrace technology and Artificial Intelligence, one wonders whether people still have the need for personal interaction.

There is an old adage in real estate, 'It's a belly-to-belly business'; we look people in the eyes; we build longstanding relationships, etc. Traditionally, an Estate Agent would physically be there with a client to show the property, to get a 'feel' for his needs, to advise him, and personally sit with him to take the offer to purchase the home of his dreams.

After working very closely with a Seller throughout the mandate period, an Estate Agent developed a good understanding of his situation to enable him to negotiate the best possible transaction for his client. On successful conclusion, a handshake, or even all-round hugs, would add to the celebration.

Tech has taken the place of that 'friendly face' as we live in a fast-paced world where the Estate Agent can get all the information he needs from different platforms, view the property on Google and even measure the building size - all even before meeting with the Seller or seeing the property. The Buyer can view the property without physically be there as HD video and photos provide a virtual 'visit' to see whether the property will suit his needs.

The Estate Agent communicates with the parties on a regular basis regarding the progress of the transaction, and now that friendly phone call has been replaced by systems where all parties can simply log in and check on the process made. Communication has dwindled down from a personal visit and a steaming cup of coffee to a short WhatsApp message. What happened to 'belly-to-belly'?

Embracing the digital world makes life easier, faster, and more efficient. But, we are human, after all. Is the power of the touch of a hand and a friendly smile still important to you?
