10 EASY TRICKS THAT WILL MAKE YOU LOVE YOUR HOME

Category Property Ownership

Loving your home is not about what your home looks like, it is rather about how you feel in your home! Your home does not have to be perfect, but it should be a reflection of you and a place that inspires you, a refuge where you and your loved ones feel safe and happy.

The first and biggest step to loving your home is deciding to embrace your current season of life. Look at things from a different perspective and take ownership of where you are now. Even if it is not exactly what you want, but you're there now so you might as well make it awesome.

The best part of loving your home is not about making big changes; it's about learning to appreciate the little things. By making a few simple changes you could alter the entire atmosphere of your home and most importantly, your attitude and mood.

So, are you ready to rekindle your love affair with your home?  Here are 10 simple tricks that will make you fall in love with your home all over again.

  1. Personalize Your Home

There is no need to wait for your "dream home".  Find your own style and be more intentional with what you bring into your home. Avoid buying bits and pieces that do not enhance the overall look and feel that you want to achieve. Creating a home that is personal to you is a huge part of loving your home.

  1. Splurge on Something Special

Splurging on something new from time to time will change the way you feel about your home. Choose a happy 'my-space' in your home and add something that gives you special joy, it could be as simple as new throw pillows or a picture for your walls.

  1. Get hands-on with small maintenance projects.

To really love your home, you must put effort and time into it. Do routine maintenance jobs like repairing broken window latches, broken tiles, fix damp spots, leaking taps, etc. Doing it yourself will minimise costs and allow you to bond with your home.

  1. Clear Your Home of Clutter

It is so true that a cluttered space creates a cluttered mind. In turn, a cluttered mind leads to overwhelm and stress.  If you're feeling overwhelmed and stressed there is no way you're going to feel at peace and love your home. Studies have shown that a clear organized space is actually good for you.  Instead of feeling discontent, it creates a feeling of satisfaction. When you keep things clean and organized, the feeling of your home becomes restorative and restful. On the other hand, a space filled with clutter and unfinished projects creates depression and fatigue.

To love your home, keep only those things that you love or that are truly useful.  Remove everything else. Your home should be a place of comfort and joy, and hanging onto things that don't make you happy, will affect you negatively. Love it or lose it!

  1. Get Comfortable with a Paintbrush

Changing the colour on your living room walls could be such fun and it will give a whole new feel to the room. If you can see the potential in a piece of old furniture and buying from second-hand stores, you can intentionally paint it in a way that compliments your overall style-whatever that may be. If you have a lot of dark furniture that you dislike, go get yourself a paintbrush and get to work with colours that make you happy. Little by little you can transform a space to suit your own style and preferences.

  1. Use Home Decor Colours That Make You Happy

Our environment has a huge impact on our mood. This includes the colours in our home. The shades of paint on your walls can depress you, help you relax, or promote positivity amongst several other feelings. What are your 'Happy Colours"? Bolder hues or softer tones? Warmer neutral tones are soothing, but why not bring in a spark of brightness with accents of bright cushions, a throw, or a plant to catch the eye?

The point is to incorporate those colours that make you feel happy and at peace.  As you do, you will love your home all over again.

  1. Keep Floor Space Clear

Creating clear areas of floor space makes a dramatic difference in the appearance of cleanliness and order in a home. The entire house feels less cluttered and less overwhelming when there is more space to move.

  1. Bring A Little Bit of Nature Indoors

Haven't you noticed how simple little things like fresh-cut flowers or new plants can brighten your whole day? Not only has it been shown that these can benefit your physical health, but simply seeing a plant subconsciously makes you feel calm and relaxed.

Flowers and plants have an immediate impact on happiness.  Adding a few plants or fresh flowers is such a simple and fun way to love your home.

  1. Let the Light Shine In

During the daytime hours make sure you regularly open your curtains, windows, and doors.  Natural light is a natural mood lifter and so is fresh air.

  1. Create A Beautiful Ambiance

As mentioned above, our physical environment has a major impact on our mental state as well as our emotions. Changing the ambiance of your home can be done easily by adding some soft lighting or a few scented candles to infuse a room with a fresh fragrance. The right lighting naturally adds a feeling of comfort and a cosy warmth.

You deserve to have a home where you feel at peace and where your family is thriving. There is no need to wait for your dream home, you can have a home that you love right now!
